Why is copper jewelry more expensive than kemp stone sets?

Copper pieces are hand-finished with real weight and intricate temple-style detailing that's more labor-intensive to produce than mass-manufactured alloy sets, which reflects in the price.

Will copper jewelry tarnish or turn dark over time?

Yes, naturally — copper darkens with age and air exposure. This is expected, not a defect, and many families see it as part of the piece's character over years of use.

Is copper jewelry suitable for a first arangetram, or should I start with a cheaper set?

Either works — the decision usually comes down to whether the family wants a piece intended to last and be passed down, versus a lower-cost set for a single event.

How should I store copper jewelry between performances?

Keep it in a dry pouch away from humidity, and avoid spraying perfume or applying lotion right before wearing it, since both can accelerate tarnishing.

How long does one alta pen last?

This depends on frequency of use, but since it's applied before every performance, most active dancers go through more than one per season — many families keep a backup on hand rather than reordering last-minute.

Should I use red or black alta?

Red is the traditional default for Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. Black is used in specific stylistic contexts — check with your guru if you're unsure which your performance calls for.

How do I stop alta from smudging during a performance?

Apply in thin layers and allow full drying time (15–20 minutes minimum) before putting on footwear, ghungroo, or standing on the performance stage.

Can alta be applied by a beginner, or does it need a professional?

Most families apply it at home — it just takes a steady hand and patience for thin, even layers. It's not something that requires a salon visit.

Does alta expire or dry out if I don't use the whole bottle right away?

Yes — check consistency before a performance rather than assuming it's still good, especially if it's been sitting since last season. Store it sealed, upright, and away from heat.
